Happy International Women’s Day! We thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to speak to some of our key personnel and praise all of the amazing work they do.
International Women’s Day is an annual celebration of the achievements of women everywhere. It’s an opportunity to influence gender parity and a chance to fundraise for female-focused charities. With this year’s campaign theme being #ChooseToChallenge, we’ve decided to celebrate some of our amazing staff and thus contribute to an inclusive world
According to Event Industry News, although “only 27% of women sit at CEO or MD level,” “80% of event management graduates in the UK are female,” and it’s inspiring to see. The fact that more and more women are choosing a career in Events demonstrates a collective effort to push for female inclusion in the sector, and therefore there’s room to challenge the 27%.
Something which Sammy Elliott is all for. “I’ve worked within the events sector for over 10 years and have a great understanding of the industry and the challenges that event organisers face,” Sammy states. Beginning her LMD career as a Sales Executive, with hard work and determination Sammy has worked her way up, now taking up the Sales Manager position. “I work within an amazing company, that rewards anyone that works hard, regardless of gender,” she said, before continuing “I hope that any woman that thinks about getting into events doesn’t get discouraged by statistics, with resilience and hard work, the events industry is an extremely rewarding sector to be a part of.”
Here at LMD we’re all about shining a light on hard-working women that play an integral part in our business, one of which is Julie Salter, our very talented Business Development Manager, “I’ve worked in the events and media industry for over 37 years. My experience and knowledge, in the world of events, means that there aren’t many challenges that I haven’t come across over the years,” she said. “Working in the events industry is never boring and every day is different, and thankfully I work amongst an amazing team at Lightmedia who believes in gender parity.”
Here at Lightmedia, we firmly believe in the power of diversity in the events industry. We have a strong team of very talented and hard-working women in our office and we wouldn’t be who we are without them.
